Reporting to the Head of Marketing, this role will craft and shape the voice of our daily marketing communications with our consumers. This person will have an inside view of the thousands of new, novel and unique products that Touch of Modern brings to our customers every year. The ideal candidate is a creative communicator who can succinctly synthesize consumer needs and differentiated product benefits into persuasive copy.


What you'll be doing:

  • Drafting, editing and proofreading copy for all outbound communications and submitting design requests inclusive of:
    • Email assets (banners, subject lines, product descriptions, etc) for 2-4 emails each day
    • 1-3 pushes per day (sent through our app)
    • Drafting briefs for larger themed events (e.g. sitewides, clearance events, etc)
    • Proof-reading final communications for accuracy
    • Additional ad hoc copywriting as needed:
      • Longer form copy (e.g. to support themed events)
      • Organic social media posts
  • Cross-functional collaboration
    • Working closely with graphic designers to develop assets and incorporate changes in a fast-paced environment
    • Working directly with merchandising and sales/sourcing team to get info on products and details to include in our marketing communications
    • Working with operations to ensure all changes to merchandise are reflected in final assets
  • Production:
    • Push: Recommending product(s) to push daily and setting them up to send
    • Email: Setting up emails (occasionally as a back-up)
  • Providing occasional longer-form copywriting for content team

What you bring to this role:

  • Excellent writing and editing skills: Ability to write clear, concise, benefits-driven copy for a consumer audience that drives key metrics (open rates, click through rates, etc.)
  • Excellent Attention to Detail: Ability to ensure finished copy is accurate, grammatically correct, and ready for distribution (pushes, emails, etc)
  • Strong Organizational and Time Management Skills: Ability to manage multiple types of copy across different media (email, pushes, social media, etc) with varying calls-to-action from inception to delivery.
  • Good Project Management Skills: Ability to get completed copy and design requests (along with any edits/updates) through to the design team and final proofing on a timely basis
  • Adaptability: Able to shift directions, and create effective copy on short notice in a fluid environment. 
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and proactively with cross-functional team to ensure detail for copy is accurate; willingness to question and validate information that seems incorrect
  • Openness to Feedback: ability to take feedback, suggestions, edits or re-writes without offense

What You Need to Have:

  • Minimum 3 years of successful, relevant experience as a copywriter or related role with a consumer-facing audience
